Can't find trim that matches your house? We'll make it.
Old houses were built by craftsmen who expected their work to last. When you need trim that matches theirs, it should be made the same way. We grind knives to the exact profile of your existing baseboard, casing, or crown, mill new lengths in the same wood, and keep your knives on file for the next room.
How it works
- Send a sample. A 6-inch piece of the original, or a clear photo with a ruler beside it. Tell us roughly how many feet you need.
- Approve the match. We quote within two business days, grind the knives, and send you a short matched sample before running the job.
- We mill and deliver. Most rooms are ready in two to three weeks. Pickup in San Rafael, delivery in Marin and San Francisco, or shipping on lengths under 8 feet.
What it costs
Most single rooms run $800 to $2,500, including the knife setup. Whole-house runs are quoted per foot. Reorders on a profile we already have on file skip the setup fee.
Woods
Vertical-grain Douglas fir and old-growth redwood for period houses, white oak, walnut, poplar for paint-grade. We source reclaimed stock when a match calls for it.
Questions we get
Is there a minimum? Yes, enough to cover the knives, usually around $600.
Do you keep my knives? Yes. Your profile is filed under your address; the next order costs less.
Can you match the finish too? Yes, from your sample, by hand. Ask when you request a quote.
Do you install? In Marin and San Francisco, yes. Elsewhere we can recommend a finish carpenter.
