How We Work

Every piece leaves Mill Street the way German cabinetmakers have built for generations: solid wood chosen board by board, joints that let the wood move, finishes rubbed in by hand. It is slower. It is also why the table you buy for your children is the one their children will argue over.

Measure

For anything fitted to a room, we come to the house. We laser-measure, photograph, and note every wall that isn't square, because in Marin most of them aren't. For standard pieces, you give us the size and we build to it.

Make

We draw first. On tables and built-ins you approve a scaled drawing and photos of your actual boards before anything is cut. Then the shop does what it has done since 1970: joinery, sanding, and a finish applied by hand or sprayed by the finisher we have trusted for years.

Place

We deliver and place in Marin and San Francisco, install what needs installing, and come back if anything ever chips, moves, or sticks. That is not a warranty clause; it is how the shop has kept its customers for fifty years.

Timing and payment

Standard pieces: 3 to 5 weeks, paid in full at order. Custom pieces: 5 to 10 weeks from approved drawing, 50% deposit at drawing approval, balance before delivery.

Care

Oiled finishes ask for a wipe with a damp cloth and a fresh coat of oil every year or two; we will show you how, or do it for you. Lacquered finishes need only a soft cloth. Keep solid wood away from direct heat and standing water, and it will outlast you.
